• Catamaran Handling: Learn to skipper a cruising catamaran of approximately 30 to 45 feet in length, focusing on the unique handling characteristics of multi-hulls.
   

• Performance Under Sail and Power: Understand how a catamaran performs under sail and engine power, including techniques for efficient operation and manoeuvring.
   

• Boat Systems: Gain knowledge of the systems specific to catamarans, including electrical, plumbing, and rigging systems.
   

• Seamanship and Safety: Emphasize seamanship skills tailored to catamarans, including safety practices, emergency procedures, and handling heavy weather conditions.
   

• Heavy Weather Operation: Develop strategies for operating a catamaran in challenging weather conditions, including reefing, storm tactics, and stability considerations.
   

• Emergency Response: Learn to handle emergencies specific to catamarans, including man-overboard recovery and equipment failures.
   

After completing ASA 114, students are certified to skipper a cruising catamaran on multi-day liveaboard cruises, both inland and coastal, in moderate to heavy winds and sea conditions.
